KUMB reporting that we're considering offering £15 mil for Song
Sorry if already done....

West Ham United are willing to match their transfer record in order to sign Alex Song on a permanent basis.

The Cameroon international - who cost Barcelona £15million in 2012 - has proved an instant hit at the Boleyn Ground since arriving on a season-long LOAN on the final day of the summer transfer window.

And according to a KUMB source, West Ham are prepared to match the £15million spent on securing the services of Andy Carroll in 2013 in order to tie the 27-year-old down to a long-term contract.

Although it is understood that West Ham would be willing to make a move for Song as early as the January transfer window, it is possible that at least one first team squad member would need to be sold in order to accommodate the former Arsenal star's financial demands as a result of the current FFP rules governing club FINANCE.

Those on the fringe of the first team squad, out of contract next summer and who could theoretically be moved on several months early include Ricardo Vaz Te, Ravel Morrison, Guy Demel, Carlton Cole and Jussi Jasskelainen.

Demel can't be described as "on the fringes" of the first team squad. He's a regular member of the squad and plays regularly.

All we need is for Nolan to fall in front of a bus/retire and we'll have most of the wages freed up.

Maybe someone should just give Nolan access to an all you can eat buffet and I reckon he'd put on so much weight he'd have no choice but to retire.

What you going on about? It's the wages that need to be freed up not how much we can get in transfer fees.

Bigger clubs will be in for him but he came to us for a reason and I don't think that has changed. Gold and Sullivan love breaking our transfer record.

Diame was a free transfer gamble picked up from Wigan.

Song is a very good midfielder who has played many games at the highest level for Arsenal and Barcelona.

The two shouldn't be compared.

It's not the transfer fee, it's the wages that will be important. Nolan is on a fat wedge and though I don't join in, with the boo boys, he is getting close to his 'use by' date.

Scraper

True `dat

How many of us on here were wanking themselves into a frenzy after Diame`s 1st half a dozen games

Once the winter kicked in it became apparent the bloke was a clumsy cunt of Carlton proportions who had no idea what to do in the final third of the pitch

Re: KUMB reporting that we're considering offering £15 mil for Song
His wages will be very hefty indeed. But if you want to improve, you have to sign better players. Better players are more expensive.

I think FFP limits increase each year, so perhaps this will be possible.

According to some on here

We were never going to loan Andy Carroll
We were never going to sign Andy Carroll
We were never going to loan Alex Song

I'll wait and see.

Wages are out of control. With players like Lampard still commanding £190,000 a week for bit part cameos at the age of 36, what makes anyone think Songs salary is going to be anything we can afford.

Re: KUMB reporting that we're considering offering £15 mil for Song
I would imagine he will move to a club playing in the CL rather than sign for us permanently. Both Liverpool and Arsenal could do with such a player. I know they're not in the CL this season, but I could also see Man Utd being interested.

Vaz - 500,000
Morrison - 500,000
Demel - 250,000
Cole - freebie
Jussi - freebie

= 1.25mil

Yeah that should cover it

Re: KUMB reporting that we're considering offering £15 mil for Song
I saw bits of the Sullivan interview on Sky
He talked about various players and was saying how impressive Song was and said of course we'd love to have him but its up to the player.
In the course of his answer he mentioned that Barca had paid £15m for him.
I suspect this has been twisted into ... we're considering offering £15m for him.

I agree. But, then again, a player is worth as much as another team wants him. His eprformances for us have shown that, in todays market, £15m would be a steal.

Would like to think we'd get him for less than barca paid, considering he's not gone forwards from there.

I hope that 15m includes wages if barca paid that fee for him 2 or 3 years ago

With the Reid Contract looking to change and to cover Song's wages! We may have to get rid of all of those mentioned!

Personally I would find a way to move Nolan on and get him off the wage bill. I fear they may look to shift Carroll on which would be a mistake imo as I think he still has a massive part to play.

FFP is wages only. A fee isn't a problem if the owners wish to spend the money. They have already proven that they will invest.
